The weekend following my July vacation week was full of the usual Cape activities (swimming, going out on the boat, hanging out in the backyard) with the added bonus of having the Walkers of Reading with us. We also made progress on our goals this weekend; for example, Casey, Dad, and I also went for a run around Great Harbors, mostly because we're athletes but also because we were in training for the Great Harbors 5K in August, which was one of Dad's goals. Now that we're into fall I miss weekend runs down the Cape quite a bit (it's so hilly here).

Vacation in July
Years ago I realized that I could avoid the post-holiday dread of going back to work the next day by taking time off the week after a holiday rather than before and I have loved this move. I took the week after July 4th off (rather than the week of, like everyone else does) and it was a blast. I did my favorite things, including yard work, ferry trips, bike rides, and watching soccer.

Fourth of July Weekend
Fourth of July weekend felt extra long this year with the holiday falling on a Thursday. I actually worked on Friday (thinking my company would give it as a freebee holiday, which they did not) but from home and it was quiet, and took the week following the 4th off (which was a great move and I plan to do again).
As usual, we went to Billy's for a cookout and then had a late dinner at Green Pond, where we could see not one but two sets of fireworks from our table. On Friday, the youngest Walkers arrived and the house was complete!

Lyon
When Stephanie and I were talking about where to extend our trip after working in London we both wanted to go somewhere we'd never been before. Since reading the book Dirt by Bill Buford, which I highly recommend (it's nonfiction and tells the story of Bill's time living in Lyon and learning to become a chef) I've wanted to visit Lyon. We went for 3 nights and stayed at a gorgeous hotel (well done with that booking, Stephanie). We spent the mornings exploring the city (walking more than 5 miles every day) and the afternoons reading and laughing by the pool. It was perfect and I miss it.
